Imtiaz Gulamhussein was born and raised in Mwanza, Tanzania East Africa. He currently lives in Orlando, FL USA. Imtiaz was raised as a staunch Ismaili Muslim. His father was a driving source of his Ismaili-Islam knowledge. Be it a meaning of a Ginan, or a reading of a Qur’an, he and his father always shared such discussions over dinner. Hence his passion for Art developed at young age. He drew posters for his Religious Education Classes and loved the intellectual discussions that derived from these arts and others.
His recent interest in Art ignited again as he went through a difficult period in his life. Having diagnosed with Leukemia in 2012 (Which by the grace of Allah, he is doing well) and going through his little journey, as his faith in Allah grew bolder, so did his inspiration of creating art.
Imtiaz Gulamhussein’s art is a unique combination of the intellect (Secular and religious) and art, resulting in an explosion of visual depiction of the subject. The aim is primarily to bring Islamic/Ismaili Art Awareness to the community. Although his website is open to Muslims and Non-Muslims to enjoy, and some of the subject matter may not entirely derive from the Islamic/Ismaili tarikah, but the concept is closely related. It is to depict the concept into a visual art form, to capture the visual beauty of a concept.
Whether you look at it as a visual beauty or as an intellectual piece with knowledge or as a learning tool, it is artist’s hope that you will see beauty in it. Each artwork has an “Artist Vision Statement” which explains the art, and perhaps open up an interesting discussion, which the audience (Muslims and Non-Muslims alike) can enjoy and see the beauty of Islam through artist’s eyes!
Imtiaz also loves to sing, you will find some entertaining songs too on his website for listening pleasure.
