We have previously featured brothers duo Farhad-Sajid Samji at Ismailimail (link below). Here is a latest story from the world of Bollywood. Farhad-Sajid have recently made their first directorial debut.

Our childhood was spent in Bandra in Mumbai. We are Aga Khan Muslims and have always lived together. -Farhad-Sajid

Farhad-Sajid: God is showering blessings on usSajid, 46, and Farhad, 40, are real brothers, who got their break in the film industry due to Salman Khan and have become directors, thanks to Akshay Kumar.

They are proud Aga Khani Ismailis, who have written dialogues for all the hit films of Rohit Shetty and are now debuting with Akshay’s Entertainment. Over an hour-long conversation, we spoke to the inseparable jodi. (Note: It was impossible to say which of the two said what, as they complete each other’s sentence and thus, we have reported it as one voice). Excerpts.

Raheel Lakhani: On the move | the project

Journeys are all about embracing the moment and at the same time, thinking about what’s next. It’s about the connecting ‘flights’, detour and mishandled adventure.. the route from Islamabad, crossing through Abbotabad, Kaghan, Naran, all the way up to Gilgit. The photo study plays the same game with the viewers – what’s next! As a photographer to me, what brings spirit to a landscape is the miniature figure of a breathing human. I have studied the moments I photographed; now the study challenges the viewer to be more perceptive, see beyond what they see and develop a sense of wonder in details.

Afzal Huda/Avi Hudson: Kati Pahari – one of the most notorious locations in Karachi

Afzal Huda/Avi Hudson: Kati Pahari - one of the most notorious locations in KarachiI’m the black sheep of the family, the maverick, the rebel, the outcast because I’ve always challenged the status quo; by living a life that’s spontaneous, uncertain, and at times dangerous. I believe life begins at the end of your comfort zone – this motto has taken me to many highly controlled yet majestic locations around the world, and has given me some of the most awe-inspiring and surreal experiences of my life.

[...] A few weeks ago, on the way back from the editor’s studio, I got mugged at gun point and lost most of my equipment, including my Macbook and cell phone. The thugs rode straight towards a hilly area, known as the Kati Pahari. Half controlled by the Talibans, the rest by various gangs. It’s an area not even the Karachi Police like to visit.

It’s a place from where no one returns, but the view is spectacular.

Sohail Chatur: Stand up ComedianComedy Knight: Laurier economics student in the standup business

By Jeff Hicks for Waterloo Region Record

WATERLOO — In Arabic, Sohail Chatur’s first name means easygoing.

“Oh, the irony,” deadpanned the Wilfrid Laurier University economics student as he devoured a plate of fish and fries about an hour before showtime.

His cellphone rang. His fork — haddock hanging mid-prong like a dangling punchline — dropped to his plate as he stood in a cosy, little British pub on a Wednesday night.

“I have to take this,” he said.

Of course he did. A Biblical rain fell outside and he worried his soggy young comedians might get washed away en route to the Churchill Arms. Two by two, they showed up in their soggy Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles T-shirts.

Chatur, 19, isn’t just the host and opening act. This studious Mississauga son of a warehouse supervisor dad and a government mediator mom is also the promoter.

Yasmin P. Karim: Commemorating the Opening Ceremony of the Ismaili Centre, Toronto & Aga Khan Museum

I was inspired by the speech of Nur Mawlana Shah Karim al-Husayni Hazir Imam and Prince Amyn, as they used the word “enlightenment”, which has spiritual significance.

I asked myself what does the word “enlightenment” mean to me as an artist and as an individual believing in the esoteric aspect of Islam?

My mind was making a constant connection …

 – Yasmin P. Karim, an artist inspired by symbols in nature

About Yasmin P. Karim

Yasmin P. Karim born in Arusha, Tanzania with the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro, moved to Canada in the 1970.

She is a non-narrative experimental director and animator who has been actively making and exhibiting art for sixteen years. Her filmography includes short film My Mountain, 7 Cycles, and the AMPIA award winning SIJJIL.

Yasmin inspires audiences with her organic process using the principles of nature. Her approach combines the physical science and spiritual science together with opposites states such as living and inanimate, beauty with tention, colour as light and texture with movement to create abstract symbolic art.

Yasmin’s current work is about symbols that go beyond the physical outward experiences, to explore the hidden sublime beauty of nature.
